Emily & Julia Gomes

Volunteers

"My name is Emily and I am a senior at Castle High school. She is president of Key club, a student community service organization, so I love to volunteer. She started volunteering for Dr. Hagedorn and Ginnie a little over a year ago; I felt it would be a great way to get a foot in the door of marine biology. The volunteer hours helped me to get into a marine biology internship in the summer of '07. I've learned how to care for the fish, which includes cleaning tanks, changing filters, and feeding the fish. I plan to go into a career of marine biology or engineering."

"I'm Julia and I am a sophomore at Castle High School. I began volunteering with the Hagedorn Lab because I like science and I love the ocean. It's been a really fun experience and I've been able to meet a lot of interesting new people."
