The Heiligenberg Foundation is an international, non-governmental organization whose purpose is the conservation of the wildlife, habitats and other natural resources in marine ecosystems. As one of its first initiatives, the Heiligenberg Foundation has adopted the Coral Conservation Program and the work of Dr. Mary Hagedorn as its major cause.

With your help, we are mounting a capital campaign that includes:

  • Short-term funding to keep the program functioning through 2008 (~$250,000);
  • An endowed position for the Program Leader, Dr. Mary Hagedorn (~$4,000,000);
  • Endowment funds to support long-term funding for the laboratory, and train international scholars to create their own coral banks (~$5,000,000);
  • Funds to support the construction of frozen repositories for coral (~$2,000,000).

Gabor Heiligenberg

President

Gabor Heiligenberg, President, is the son of Dr. Walter Heiligenberg, one of the world's premier marine biologists at the Scripps Institution of Oceanography. Growing up in the beach community of Del Mar, California, his father exposed him to countless practical conservation habits from composting, to compulsive recycling, to reclaiming shower and bath water for irrigating the garden. These ideas fundamentally shaped his genuine concern for and responsibility to our planet. Creating a foundation for marine conservation was a natural extension of his family's interests and a tribute to his deceased parents. Gabor has worked in establishing a foundation to help fill the financial funding gap that currently exists in the ongoing effort to help preserve our planet's desperately over-taxed ecosystems. He has worked as a motion picture and television hairstylist in Hollywood, California for the past twelve years, where he has been fortunate enough to work with countless celebrities and personalities that share his passion for environmental preservation. He is currently the head hairstylist on the hit ABC show Desperate Housewives.
